Area Commissioner - Sunset Area

The Area Commissioner is the leading volunteer for Scouting in Sunset Area, comprised of 10 Groups throughout the Grey-Bruce region, with a membership of over 200 youth supported by nearly 150 volunteers.  Working closely with a team of volunteers and employees, the Area Commissioner is responsible for supporting and growing the Scouting movement in Sunset Area, as well as being a vital member of the Shining Waters Council Management Team.

Appointed by and accountable to the Shining Waters Council Commissioner, this position requires a time commitment of 16-20 hours per month.  The appointment is for a one year term, renewable for a maximum of three years.  Travel throughout the Area to attend meetings and events will be required.

With the completion of the term of the current Area Commissioner, Sunset Area is seeking an individual with lots of energy, excellent time and management skills to assume the role upon appointment.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated leadership, management, problem solving, delegation and decision making skills,
  • Proven ability to inspire confidence, team effort, and leadership in others,
  • Effective interpersonal and excellent communication skills,
  • A strong Scouting background,
  • Registered as an active member of Scouts Canada.
